There’s been a lot of media coverage and hype around the West End theatre production of “War Horse”, based on the book by Michael Morpurgo. Several people recommended it to me, so I thought I’d better go and see for myself. To my dismay, it had sold out!
Fortunately it came back by popular demand; this time at the National Theatre. I was not disappointed – the production is magnificent. This play really captures the complex mixture of emotions and the changing fortunes that come with war. The characters are cleverly developed as their paths align themselves, and sometimes collide with, the fate of a cavalry horse, Joey, to which soldiers in both armies become attached. The narrative and characters are both extremely engaging, but it’s the production and particularly the life-sized puppets that truly captivate the audience.
Watch the trailer above or if you get a chance, it really is worth a visit.
