It’s interesting to see what people can come up with when given an opportunity. Recently we got involved with Torquay’s Torre Abbey, to help promote Antony Gormley’s ‘Field for the British Isles’. This is on show there until the end of August and we wanted to help them spread the word. The problem was they’d spent most of their budget on getting the piece(s) to Torquay in the first place! So we put our heads together and came up with a plan…
We’ve done quite a bit with South Devon College over the years and we have a pretty good relationship with the guys in the Media department. We gave them a tinkle.
We asked if they had any students who’d be interested in working with a local agency to produce some adverts. We explained the benefits. The students would not only be helping Torre Abbey, they’d also be publicising one of the best known exhibitions to reach the English Riviera in recent years, they’d get an insight into what it’s like to produce work against a live brief, they’d be producing a pretty cool piece of work to show potential employers (with plenty of help if needed), they could proudly say their work would be on show in the commercial world, both online and around South Devon, and, last but not least, they’d get to work with us!
To cut a long story short, the guys at South Devon College thought it was a great idea, so we went in and talked to those who’d shown an interest. Two of them stood out and decided that, although they’d have to work in their own time, it would be worth it. This is what they came up with.
We think they did a great job – don’t you?
Gemma Hudson and Stuart Maiden take a bow. Thanks for your help!
