On Saturday (9th July) the ‘DNA Dawdlers’, otherwise know as Sarah and Katie, took part in the Rowcroft Hospice Sleep Walk along with 1500 other women and a giant sheep named ‘Barbara’. We have been working with Rowcroft since October last year to produce the Sleep Walk campaign material and website so we were really excited to be part of the big event. The atmosphere on the night was amazing and it was an incredible sight to see so many women dressed in their PJs all determined to have a great time and raise money for such a worthy cause.

The ten mile route took us from Occombe Farm through Cockington and along the harbour to Kents Cavern where we walked through the caves (our favourite part of the walk). From Kents it was back along the harbour before climbing the hill up Headland Park Road, along Sandringham Gardens and Preston Down Road then heading back to Occombe Farm for a much needed bacon sarnie.

The Sleep Walk event has seen sponsorship pledged currently standing at an amazing £130,000 – that’s a whopping £170,000 including Gift Aid! This money will help secure the future of Rowcroft and the end of life care that they to provide. (See what we did there?) Our trusty BDM Tim has taken up  yet another challenge all in the name of charity! Tim will be running the Torbay Half Marathon on Sunday 19th June on behalf of Rowcroft Hospice – it’s a charity that’s close to Tim’s heart and provides fantastic care to people facing life-limiting illness. With the 13.1 mile coastal route giving all participants a run for their money, any kind donations will be most appreciated – please show your support and give what you can. Thank you.

The Sleep Walk is a sponsored night walk open to all ladies aged 12 and over and will take place on the 9th of July 2011. There are limited places, so anyone interested in participating should sign-up online now.

Creatively this was an exciting project, as although the branding had already been created around their mascot ‘Barbara the sheep‘, Rowcroft required a look and feel, that was fun and fresh and unique to this event. We were asked to move away from dark skies and glitzy sparkling stars, as this had been done before, so we came up with a theme based around pink stripey pyjamas, pillows and patchwork quilts.

The centrepiece of the new site is an animated patchwork landscape encompassing the main sights of Torquay and the Sleep Walk route with fun interactive elements throughout.

It was felt that Social Media should be integral to this campaign as it is an ideal medium to keep in touch with users. Facebook has been intergrated throughout the site and the Rowcroft team have been constantly keeping it up to date with high quality content. Flikr was also chosen to share photos.

It’s that time of year again, when we at DNA humiliate ourselves in silly outfits in an attempt to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice.  For this year’s ‘Go Yellow’ day (March 31st) we are going to be performing a series of challenges IF we reach various levels of donations. Our tasks are likely to be uncomfortable, embarrassing or frankly ridiculous – your job is rather simple…

We’re determined not to be branded as Yellow Bellies so after we’ve endured a task we’ll be uploading hard proof – pictures or video updates – on the Go Yellow blog page… Be sure to check back often. Yes that’s right, as part of our ‘Go Yellow Day’ for Rowcroft Hospice and in a bid to get some last minute donations, resident Iron Man (Jon) was sponsored to travel home by public transport sporting his full outfit.
